About Breckinridge County
Breckinridge County sits in west-central Kentucky along the Ohio River, with Hardinsburg as its county seat. Formed in 1799 and named for Kentucky statesman John Breckinridge, the county has deep roots in farming, river trade, and small-town main streets that still anchor its communities today.
Today the county blends working farmland with hometown businesses, and its towns — Hardinsburg, Irvington, and Cloverport among them — each keep their own local character.
